Progress, Authenticity and the Courage to Do Uncomfortable Work
In part two of his conversation with Will Robinson of ESOP Partners, Your Business Tech Podcast host Conor Jones explores how recovery, faith and continuous learning can influence the way people approach sales, leadership and life.
The conversation begins with the books, podcasts and other educational resources that have shaped Will’s personal and professional development. One of the most important lessons is the value of measuring progress by looking backward. Rather than focusing only on what has not yet been accomplished, reflecting on how far you have already come can create gratitude, reduce anxiety and provide a more realistic picture of growth. As Will explains, transformation rarely happens all at once. It is built piece by piece, day by day. The goal is not perfection. It is consistent progress.
Doing Less—but Doing It Better
Another lesson comes from the concept of essentialism: focusing on fewer priorities and executing them well. For business development professionals, it can be easy to fill every available hour with meetings, networking events and new opportunities. A more intentional approach means building a purposeful circle of people you can genuinely help and learn from.
Conor and Will also discuss the importance of putting yourself in uncomfortable situations. Starting a podcast, speaking in front of an audience, making a difficult phone call or admitting that you do not know an answer all require humility. However, those moments can also create some of the greatest opportunities for learning and growth.
The conversation ultimately centers on three principles: practice rigorous authenticity, surrender the outcome and be willing to do uncomfortable work. That means showing up honestly, putting in the effort and accepting that not every result is within your control.
By removing the mask, leaving ego at the door and remaining open to learning, professionals can create more genuine relationships and better serve the people around them.
